How to make more of what you’ve already got

A Medium Term Investment ISA plan is an investment account where there is no tax to pay on the income and growth you earn from your money.

The key difference is that stocks, shares or property are used, rather than cash.

You can also invest more through stocks and shares than through cash: up to £4,000 in a Mini investment stocks and shares ISA or £7,000 in a Maxi investment ISA.

The main advantages of a Stakeholder Saving Medium Term Investment ISA plan are:

  • You can start with as little as £20, adding more whenever you like
  • There are no set up costs for you
  • You should see growth over the medium term

But remember:

  • You’re using a company’s expertise to invest your money, and they will charge you for that. But the charges will be no more than 1.5% of your fund each year, and you’ll be informed what the changes are for
  • The value of stocks, shares and property can go down as well as up
  • And keep in mind that a provider’s past performance is not an indicator of future performance

If you already have a Mini Investment or Maxi investment ISA, you can open a Stakeholder Saving Medium Term Investment Plan. The benefits are similar but you will also need to pay tax on interest and growth earned in the account.
